Centralized Database for Local Area Network + Pros & Cons

How to develop a centralized database for the whole local area network where the system admin is the only one who can access the database.

Centralized Database

Centralized Database for is one of the database where all the records are stored and keep. Like in the sense of an Hospital Management System. All are Computers have deployed application but there is no Database installed on those computers. They all are connected to a main computer where the records are stored.

Database Administrator as DBA

All those records manipulated by some of them who can handle the database procedures and other things like temperature, request per minute, backup, who can access database and many other aspects which are really need to see.

Centralized Database used by number of Organizations and Universities to store and keep their records. Most important Backup is needed to handle those records because server may be crash if it's old. Here are the examples from Pakistan who used centralized database for their Local Area Network as well as WAN.

Organizations Used Centralized Database

  • TCS
  • Axact
  • Inbox Technologies

Universities Used Centralized Database

  • Virtual University of Pakistan
  • Karachi University
  • IQRA University

Advantages of Central DB

  • One of the best advantage is security as it's one storage location which is available to the locally connected computer. Only internal people can attacked the database.
  • Fault can be handle easily and better connection with the networking computers.
  • Database is single so design to the database is easy but load on computer or server is too much.
  • Effective and labor type database easy to handle by DBA.
  • Updates to user can easily be get and set by end users.

Disadvantages of Local Database

  • Centralized database for local area network depends of total connectivity, if connection breaks whole network down for storage need an immediate backup facility.
  • High Traffic on server faults or crashes may happen quick.
  • Database Load up too much which is another sense of heavy traffic.
  • Effective + Labor type database can manage easily by DBA.
  • Updates to user can easily be get and set by end users.
