Two different feature of ALGOL which are not present in FORTRAN?
FORTRAN:
Names could have up to six characters
It had support for formatted I/O and user-defined subprograms.
ALGOL:
Names could have any length
It was never widely used, especially in U.S because there was no i/o support and the character set made programs non-portable.
